HOW TO GET AROUND

As Kerala spans over a wide geographic area, a hire car is the best option for getting around. Most people who visit Kerala will spend a few days in each location as each of the areas offer something different. If you would prefer to spend at least 5 or so days in a single location, I would recommend a Kovalam beach resort – even if only for part of your trip.

If you are on a tighter budget, a combination of public transport is also a viable option however travel times will be significantly more than hiring a car for yourself. Bus transport options for getting around Kerala are available here. Taxi’s in Kerala are cheap with a taxi start fare of a couple of USD then 0.15 – 0.2 USD per kilometre or around 2000 Indian Rupee (INR) / 30 USD for 8 hours of hire.
